IOM Training Workshop to be Held in Saint Lucia

Migrants in Focus

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with the Government of Saint Lucia, will be facilitating a training workshop on “The Protection of Vulnerable Migrants”,  from 10-14 September, 2012 at the Bay Gardens Hotel.The workshop will discuss international best practices; and participants will be provided with the opportunity to acquire the technical knowledge, skills and tools to identify and protect vulnerable migrants such as asylum seekers, refugees, victims of trafficking and children. It will commence from 9:00 am and conclude at 4:30 pm daily.IOM is the leadinginter-governmental organisation in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners.It has had a longstanding partnership with the Government of Saint Lucia, through which a number of activities have been undertaken including a series of workshops on human trafficking held in collaboration with the Division of Gender Affairs during 2004 and 2006, a Regional Seminar on Mixed Migration in 2008 at the Rex Resort, and more recently, data sharing on migration in the context of the CSME.A number of governmental organisations and NGOs that interact with vulnerable migrants have have confirmed their participation in this important event.
