One Dead, 11 Injured – Accident Details and Crime Progress Reports from RSLPF

Fatal Accident Claims the Life of a 20-year-old

 On Monday 25th June 2012, about 3:30 pm, Officers attached to the Richfond Police Station responded to a report of a serious vehicular accident which occurred along the La Caye Highway, Dennery

On arrival on the scene, officers received information that motor omnibus registration number M1017 driven by 36 year Peter Clarkson of Dennery, was travelling along the said road in a northerly direction when he came into contact with a black bicycle travelling in the opposite direction. At the time the cyclist was identified as 20 year old Melvin Avril of Derniere Riviere, Dennery.

As a result of the impact, Melvin Avril sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A post mortem examination which was performed on the body of the deceased on Tuesday 26th June, 2012 revealed that he died as a result of a brain injury.

An investigation in the matter is ongoing.

11 Persons Injured in Vehicular Accident

On Wednesday 27th June 2012, about 3:00 pm, Officers attached to the Soufriere Police Station responded to a serious vehicular accident which occurred near the Humming Bird Beach in Soufriere.

Information received indicated motor omnibus registration number M1078 driven by Hiran Robinson of Mongouge, Choiseul lost control after attempting to allow free passage to an oncoming vehicle, skidded off the brow of a hill landing on its roof. At the time the bus was heading to the Anse Chastenat Hotel to convey staff members.

As a result of the accident all 11 passengers on the said vehicle including the driver sustained injuries. The seriously injured passengers were conveyed to the St. Jude’s Hospital whilst the remaining injured passengers were taken to the Soufriere Hospital where they were treated, some of which were admitted.

The omnibus was completely damaged.

An investigation into the matter is continuing.

13-year-old Still Missing 

The Royal St. Lucia Police Force is continuing its effort in locating 13 year old Justus Monrose of Marchand Road.

Justus Monrose was reported missing on Friday 18th May 2012 about 9:35 am by his mother Phillipa Damaze of Marchand Road

He was last seen on Thursday 17th May 2012 about 2:30 pm wearing a while ¾ short pants, a blue and white tee shirt and a black pair of sneakers. At the time he was carrying a white and green Jan Sport backpack with two stars on it.

Justus Monrose is brown skin in complexion; he is of slender built and has brown eyes. He wears his hair in dreads.

Anyone with information pertaining to the whereabouts of Justus Monrose is asked to contact the Marchand Police Station at 456 3885 or the nearest police station.

Progress Report: Bail on Drug’s Charges

 On Tuesday 26th June 2012, 32 year old Martin Shortie and 15 year old Marlon Lewis appeared before the court on the charges of Possession of a Control Drug and Possession with the Intent to Supply a Control Drug.

Both individuals were bailed in the sum of $750.00 on each charge. Part of their bail condition includes reporting to the Richfond Police Station on Wednesdays between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm.

Martin Shortie and Marlon Lewis were arrested by Officers attached to the Traffic Department during a traffic check on the Bexon Highway on Friday 22nd June, 2012.

 

Progress Report: Prison Term on Firearm Charge

On Tuesday 26th June 2012, Cletus Mitchel of La Croix Maingot appeared before the court on the charge of Possession of an unlicensed Firearm.

He was sentence to one year imprisonment.

Cletus Mitchel was arrested on Friday 22nd June 2012. At the time of his arrest he had in his possession a 9mm pistol.
