St Lucia and Martinique to Clash in Rugby Encounters.

Standard

The St Lucia senior male rugby team will play against their counterparts from Martinique in a grudge match on Saturday June 23, 2012 on the Grande Riviere Playing Field. It is a rematch of the similar fixture held in October last year when Martinique narrowly defeated St Lucia with two minutes to go in the game to outpoint the local lads.

The thought of having victory snatched from their grasps is still a bitter taste in the mouths of many of the St Lucian players who have vowed to turn the tide on their neighbours to the north. Martinique on the other hand is set to maintain the status quo and will be travelling with a strong team and several supporters for moral support.

A least thirty French players and rugby enthusiasts will be arriving in St Lucia aboard three boats on Friday June 22, 2012. They, along with the St Lucia team will be entertained at a cocktail reception at the Treasure Bay Casino on Friday evening.

The St Lucia public is encouraged to come out and support the local team and rugby in general. Bring a flag, bring a towel, bring a whistle, make some noise and let your presence be felt.

In July, the Union will be hosting the St Lucia Carnival Tournament which will be held on July 14, 2012 on The Sab Sports facility. Several teams from Trinidad, Curacao etc will be in attendance along with several local teams.
