Standard

CAMDU, Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development & Labour presents the first ever EDUVAL – ‘The Educational Carnival Experience’. It has been observed that students across the island have very few opportunities to participate in or examine the Saint Lucian Carnival which is an essential part of our culture and a component of the CXC Theatre Arts Syllabus. Therefore Theatre Arts Department of  CAMDU has decided to utilize this festival as a learning tool and an avenue for youth development. Students from both primary and secondary schools will perform in and view   the following Carnival components:

  • Calypso and Soca by students and the Calypso Association
  • Ole Mas and pretty mas portrayals  by schools and the Junior Carnival Bands as well as mas making working
  • the Queen show in the form of the Miss Eduval Competition amongst secondary schools
  • An Exhibition on the history of Lucian Carnival
  • A  School’s Parade (Vigie Sports Complex along John Compton Highway and back)
  • Presentation by the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors on safe behaviour during carnival

The event has been created with the guidance of the Carnival Management Committee and in partnership of the various carnival stakeholders. Eduval comprises of two events: the expo which will be held on June 8th at the Vigie Sports Complex from 9:30a.m. – 2:30p.m and the Miss Eduval Competition which will be held on the evening of Junior Carnival, 8 July from 6pm at the National Cultural Centre.
